I am Betsy Ross
Yes, my mother and father, whose name was Ross, really named me Betsy Ross. I have loved the needle arts since I was a child, so I guess the name was appropriate. I knitted my first sweater when I was 14. It was a Fair Isle sweater. I had never knitted any thing before. No one told me that I was suppose to start with something simple. I learned from that experience not to be intimidated by the apparent complexity of the project. You can always pull out some yarn to correct a mistake; you can always find someone more experienced than you to help you with a technique. Besides, a little challenge is fun. Although my mother was a skilled at crochet, I didn't start crocheting myself for another ten years or so. I saw an article in Family Circle magazine with patterns to crochet a variety of Christmas ornaments. I decided to make them for my mother. Again I completed the project, teaching myself to crochet from the pattern instructions and a How-to-Crochet book.
Over the years, I've really learned to love the process. There is something quite magical about creating beautiful, wearable, whimsical, imaginative things with string and some sticks. I hope you love the things I'll create for you as much as I'll love creating them.
